I can only say the clav is a bitch to keep in tune and a bitch to sample. Take a look at the resulting waveform in your favorite DAW and measure the time difference.

I'm sure it was a difference in the temperature in the room. Every sample I pulled up probably tried a dozen different ones from the clavs has between 5 and 8 ms of silence before the note.

It's also possible that Scarbee fixed the waves since Busch got his. I use NE2 these days, for convenience, and I'm very happy with NE2's clav except that the release is far too slow. Not sure what they might have changed if anything in the integrated version. Experiment with different ways of striking the key.

I found I could tune a range of notes in the evening and by morning that would be out of tune very slightly. I don't remember the names, but two of the sounds are fairly full and deep, two are out-of-phase and so are thin but funky.

I suggest you just replace that tine. There may be out-of-tune notes that I didn't happen to pick. Its 'twangy' nature is highly reminiscent of an electric guitar, and works particularly well when played in a sharp and percussive style. Anyhow, I think you'll find if you went into Kontakt at the sample level and tried to micro tune each velocity layer you'd end up making things worse.

Here's the thing about these real vintage instruments, the tuning IS dependent upon how hard they're hit, especially in the bass. The result is a vibraphone-like tone with a very percussive envelope and a narrow dynamic response due to its "sticky hammers" - somewhere between the reedy bite of the A and the purer bell tone of the Mark 1. As I look at the tuning of the Scarbee clav I see most notes are flat when play quietly but are at pitch when played louder.

I'm guessing the same can be said for the strings on a clav.

I'm zcarbee noticing latency in Kontakt 4 or on my Receptor with Kontakt 2. I like a real sharp release on clav. The result kicks ass for a full AND funky tone. The tuning gets really wonky just before it goes, but at first it's subtle and can last for a while -- especially if the treatment that got it way was from a different player's habits.
